This was commissioned as a wedding present. The Bride wanted something different for her husband. I had just discovered a purple penguin in my father's library. Fotis was the slave girl in Milo's house which the hero fell in love with and who turned him into an ass by accident. The ass later told the story of Eros and Psyche. The translation of The Golden Ass was by Robert Graves. The book was banned by the Spanish Inquisition for obvious reasons!
